FAQ
How do I get started looking for a place to build my new home?
Contact us! We are constantly looking at land opportunities. Some lots come available on the open market through real estate agents, but other land opportunities might come to us directly from the land owner. We’ll be able to send you available land for custom homesites for consideration based on the values you’ve communicated to us.
What kind of financing do I need to build a custom home?
We use Construction-to-Permanent financing for our new home construction builds. It offers benefits not found in traditional end loan financing for our clients. If you are not familiar with CP loans, we encourage you to contact one of our recommended Loan Officers to learn more.
What size homes do you build?
We have floor plans ranging from 2,000 square feet to 7,000 square feet, but that doesn’t mean we won’t build smaller or larger. We work with you to determine what size house will best meet your needs and if that means an 1,800 square foot home is the right size, then that’s what we’ll build. When you complete a custom home construction, you can often eliminate wasted space so you may not need a larger home, just a smarter one! Call us today to start exploring the right sized home fit to your lifestyle.
Where are your lots?
While at any time, we might have homesites available in your desired area, we will also work with you to source out available land if we don’t. We are a well-known builder for new home communities in Howard County, new home communities in Carroll County, and new home communities in Frederick County, so reach out if you are looking to build a home with Viking.
Will you build in my desired area?
If your desired area is in Maryland, Southern York County, PA or the Eastern Shore, we’d love to talk with you to determine if we would be the best custom home builder for your planned project.
What is your cost per square foot to build?
Some people ask this question to try to determine if a custom home builder can deliver the size home that they desire within their budget. Others ask it to try to compare one custom home builder to another. We ask all of our prospective clients to consider the fact that no two home builders are alike. The average home has over 40,000 individual parts – that’s 40,000 possible ways to be different. To ask the question, “What is your cost per square foot?” is like asking an automobile manufacturer, “What is your cost per pound for a car?” It all depends on what is being included in the cost. It’s a measurement that often fails to compare apples to apples. One builder may quote a low cost per square foot and exclude the cost to develop the land, while another, which quotes a higher cost per square foot includes land development. We invite anyone to present us with another builder’s offer and let us show you the Viking Difference.
Can we provide our own materials or use a friend/relative for certain parts of our build?
We pride ourselves on being able to deliver a new home to our customers in a timely manner and without worry about things working properly. We have invested a significant amount of time selecting the right team members who exemplify our attention to detail and quality workmanship. We rely on these established relationships to meet the tightest of deadlines and provide products whose quality we can attest to. The quality of items sourced over the Internet can be compromised or may have troublesome return policies. Items which do not work properly or personally selected vendors can often slow down the construction process.
We value the trust you have placed in us to build your energy efficient home and feel confident in our ability to deliver on time and within budget when we use the highest quality products and people.
